This is my first A race of the year and I am hoping to qualify for the Boston Marathon with this run. To do so I need to complete it in 3:09:59 at a pace of 7:15 per mile. If training goes well I may even shoot for a sub 3, but we'll just focus on Boston for now! This race takes place on May 15th.
This is an If Funds Allow event. It takes place on June 6, only three weeks after the Brookings event. While that is plenty of time to recovery I would still be hesitant to register before the deadline, which is May 25th. It takes place on the Mickelson so it would give me time on there before my Ultra. The last half is either downhill or pretty flat so it would be a good race to PR at. The Mickelson is a old railroad track converted to a trail. Which means there is not lot of steep up or down hills.
I don't even know where Viborg is. But it's only 50 dollars to enter. The race is June 13th, so it's a week after the Deadwood one so I will unlikely do both. I thought I would put it on the list though.
My 2009 Ironman had to wait because of my Plantar Fasciitis injury. In 2010 I am planning on doing the Vineman race at Guerneville California, near Santa Rosa, on July 31. Being a smaller (but one of the oldest) Ironman events in the country the entry fee on Dec 29, 2009 was only 325 dollars (compared to the 550 of most races) and they do a buy two get on free deal so two other triathletes and myself signed up together, making my entry fee only 233.
My other A race. This takes place on the George S. Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills of western South Dakota. I was also planning on doing this in 2009 but was sidelined with injury. I have yet to decided if I want to race the 50 miler or simply survive the 100 miler on August 28th and 29th.
This is a B race for the year, and If Funds Allow. October 3rd will be the inaugural event so It would like to give it a try. There is plenty of time to recover after the Ultra and another run out in the hills would be a great way to finish out the season.
Other Goals for 2010:
Learn to do a wheelie on my bike.
Run Injury Free
This is obviously a big one, and the key to future success. I hope with ditching the shoes and running minimalist I have found what I need to successfully run into the future.
Hit 3,000 miles
Doing so will obviously bank on the previous goal. However I believe it is possible. This would take averaging 62 miles per week and that is a challenge for anyone. Lets take off 3 months of running from 2009. That puts me at averaging 40 miles a week for 9 months. Take into account much of that I was running lower mileage because I was coming off of injury and not doing what I would have normally been. I believe averaging more is a possibility.
